Woodrow "Woody" Albert Juncker, of El Cajon, Calif., died on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was 93. Mr. Juncker was born on Sept. 28, 1918, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He lived in Eldora and Des Moines, Iowa, and Independence, Mo. before moving to Southern California in 2007. He worked in Data Communications for the General Services Administration and retired in 1975.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for four years as a radar and teletype operator in New York City and Calcutta, India.
Mr. Juncker was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. He proudly dedicated nearly 30 years of service delivering meals on wheels in Independence. Mr. Juncker really enjoyed providing hot meals and smiles to members of his community.
Mr. Juncker was an avid horseshoe pitcher, bowler and fisherman. The first floor of his Independence home was decorated with dozens of trophies from horseshoe tournaments, bowling leagues, and even a couple large catches he reeled in on Canada fishing trips.
He was predeceased in 1996 by Frances, his beloved wife of 48 years, and will be buried beside her. Surviving is his daughter, Margaret and her husband, Larry Barnes of El Cajon, Calif.; a sister, Lily Johnson of Overland Park, Kan.; and three grandsons, Eric and his wife Rachel, Jeffrey and Daniel Barnes; and a great-grandson, Tristan Woodrow Barnes all of San Diego.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, 11:00 A.M. at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with burial following at the New Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
