Winnie Nuis

Winnie Nuis, 101, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday July 26, 2006 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with Pastor Daniel C. Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Saturday.



Winnie was born February 20, 1905 in Holland, Iowa, daughter of Anno and Meindertje (Smit) Roemeling. Her early years were spent on a farm near Holland and in 1918 the family moved back into the town of Holland. Winnie worked in the E.A. Lingelbach store for six years. On April 22, 1925 she was united in marriage to Harm Nuis. They continued to live in Holland until 1931 when they moved to Grundy Center where Harm continued in the trucking, farming and sand and gravel business until his retirement. They spent many summers in Lake City, Minnesota in their trailer home.



She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Holland for a number of years until 1954 when she united with the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association and the Lois Circle. Winnie has resided at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit for a number of years.



She is survived by her son, Robert H. Nuis of Tucson, Arizona; step-sons, Alan and Craig MacLoughlin; granddaughter, Madison MacLoughlin; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harm in 1981; her parents; sister, Helen Roemeling; and brothers, Siebo and Henry Roemeling.
