William C. "Bill" Vos, 79, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at the Holland Cemetery.
Bill was born on September 22, 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to his parents Cornelis and Johanna (Kievit) Vos. He was raised and educated in Kalamazoo and graduated from Central High School in the class of 1954. Bill followed in the footsteps of his father working as a Certified Tool and Die Maker at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa, Schoitz Engineering in Waterloo, Iowa and Traer Manufacturing in Traer, Iowa from where he retired. Bill also worked for the Central Iowa Water Association (Rural Water) and various other jobs around Grundy County.
Bill was united in marriage to Wilma Harms on November 4, 1955 at the Christian Reformed Church in Holland, Iowa. Together they welcomed three children into their family.
Bill was a long-time member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. There he served the church as a member of the choir. Bill enjoyed fishing and duck hunting. He cherished his family trips to Lake Pepin, Minnesota and Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan and was also a "hobby" Meteorologist. Bill's true joy in life came from spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife Wilma, of Grundy Center; his children Brenda Biersner of Dike, Iowa, Scott (Connie) Vos of Allen, Texas and Linda (Lyndon) Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; his grandchildren Mitchell, Benjamin (Jodie) and Alexander Biersner, Elizabeth and Andrew (Felicia) Vos, Heather (Jamie) Niedermann and Michael Dorothy; his great-grandchildren Tyler Dorothy, Kinnick and Kinnley Niedermann; his brother Kryn (Phyllis) Vos of Portage, Michigan; one nephew; five nieces and sister-in-law Leona Rhoads. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law John Biersner and brother-in-law John Rhoads.
