William M. Nowasell, 80, of Eldora, died on Wednesday, January 05, 2005 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora, from injuries sustained in a fall at his home on Monday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, January 10 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
William was born July 6, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Isadore and Christine (Wolffe) Nowasell. After moving to Iowa with his family, he graduated from Eldora High School. On July 21, 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served until being honorably discharged January 5, 1946. He then received technical training at Central Radio and Television School.
On April 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dalela "Dee" Munson in Eldora. To this union were born four children, Laura, Rex, Karla, and Paul. William and Dee lived in Marshalltown for forty years where he worked for KFJB Radio for 9 1/2 years before working as a clerk at the Marshalltown Post Office for 30 years. He retired in 1985 and in 1994 returned to Eldora. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion, and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. William was an avid bicyclist often riding long distances throughout the countryside, and enjoyed dancing.
Surviving William is a daughter, Karla (Brian) Stille of Wellsburg; sons, Rex (Julie) of Lakewood, Colorado and Paul (Linda) of Grinnell; sisters, Martha Archer of Eldora, Ida Nielsen of Whitefish, Montana, and Phyllis (Bill) Laughlin of Boulder, Colorado; brothers, Arthur of Springfield, Missouri, Alfred (Opal) of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Frank (Donni) of Indianola; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) O'Shea of Denver, Colorado, Jill Morrison of Denver, Colorado, Andrew Nowasell of Cambridge, Kyle Stille of Wellsburg, Bradley, James, Danielle and Joseph Nowasell of Grinnell, and Angela and Amanda Nowasell of Lakewood, Colorado; great grandson, Cael O'Shea; and good friend and companion, Agnes Pickering of Hubbard. Preceding him in death was his wife, Dee on July 27, 2000; daughter, Laura Morrison in 1985; and his parents.
