William Mundt

May 13, 1930 — August 14, 2007

William F. Mundt, 77, of Marshalltown, formerly of Eldora, died from natural causes on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Eldora with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Rosary beginning at 5 pm. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Eldora or St. Henry's Catholic Church of Marshalltown.



William was born May 13, 1930 in Denison, Iowa, son of Carl and Dorothy (Hufford) Mundt. He graduated from Manilla High School in 1948 and then served with the U.S. Marine Corp from May of 1948 to July of 1951. William served in Korea reaching the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received. On March 21, 1952 William was united in marriage to Betty Enegar in Tama, Iowa. He moved to Eldora in 1974 and was self employed as an independent building contractor and also enjoyed woodworking and furniture building.



He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora and a active member of St. Henry's Catholic Church of Marshalltown. He was also a former member of Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the Eldora American Legion and a present member of Frank-Lewis-Glick Post 46 of the Marshalltown American Legion.



Surviving is his wife, Betty; children, Linda Hay of Austin, Minnesota; Vicki Davis of Galt, Iowa; Sandra (Michael) Johnson of Madrid, Iowa; William J.(Kathyrn) Mundt of Newhall, Iowa; and Debra (Michael) Forristall of Madrid, Iowa; two sisters; Betty (Ed) Grage of Manilla, Iowa; Karlene (Lewis) Helbig, Marion, Iowa, one bother; Carl Jr. of San Diego, California; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.



Willliam was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Douglas Mundt and a sister, Delores Schmitz.
