William "Bill" Lawrence Kuhlman, 91, of Grundy Center, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23rd at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 2:30 PM at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, Iowa with Pastor Robby Grames officiating. Memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Per Bill's wishes, he has been cremated and the inurnment will be held at a later date at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Bill was born on November 28, 1925 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of William J. & Lela (Coover) Kuhlman. He attended school in Grundy Center, graduating with the class of 1944. In 1945, Bill enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served 19 months as a Control Tower Operator. On April 17, 1946, Bill was united in marriage to Doris Meyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They had 2 children, Linda and Darrell.
He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder for 18 years, a Deacon for 3 years and also served as a youth sponsor. His hobbies included motorcycles, aircraft, woodworking and cattle. Handling cattle was his favorite part of farming, which he did alongside his wife for 70 years. He semi-retired in the spring of 1996.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Doris of Grundy Center; daughter Linda (DeeGene) McMartin of Grundy Center and son Darrell (Tonie) Kuhlman of Alice, Texas; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; sister Jeanette (Martin) Broer of Iowa Falls, IA and brother John (Margie) Kuhlman of Holland, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Clinton McMartin.
