William “Bill" was born at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa on December 13th,1949 to Elmer Harold and Ruth Eleanor (Jontz) DeBerg. He was one of three boys. He attended Dike elementary and graduated from Dike High School in 1968. He was involved in music, choir and band.
Following high school, he attended Hawkeye Tech College and graduated and received diplomas in the Metals Division and Machine Maintenance programs. Bill worked for a short time at Sears Automotive in Waterloo and decided the farm is where he belongs. He worked side by side with his father for many years until his dad moved to town and Bill took over the farming operation, doing what he loved most until he retired and rented the farm, but stayed on the family farm until his passing.
Bill was a life time member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church then the Orchard Hills Church. Bill served many roles as treasurer, elder and deacon at Lincoln Center as well as taking care of the cemetery there for several years. He was never afraid to talk about and share his faith. Having a big and caring heart, he always tried to help others in need which sometimes went unappreciated. Bill loved to visit with people, if he gave you a hard time, that probably meant he liked you.
Bill was into drag racing, motocross and flat track racing when he was a younger man. He later got heavily involved with antique tractor pulling with his brother Bob. They pulled all over the state and made so many friends and memories through the years. Bill was on several tractor pulling boards, including the Hawkeye Tractor Pulling Association and the Iowa State Fair Antique and Classic Tractor Pulling. Bill’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a passionate man of strong faith in God and his Lord Jesus Christ. I'm sure Bill is still at the pearly gates holding up the line visiting with everyone.
He leaves behind his brothers, Steven (Cindy Imhoff) DeBerg and Robert "Bob" DeBerg (partner Brandie Sebeniecher) and special family friends Alan (Carrie) DeBerg and their children.
Bill is preceded in death by parents, Elmer Harold DeBerg in 1993 and Ruth Eleanor Jontz DeBerg in 1997.
In lieu of flowers, memorial to the family would be preferred.
