Corky was born on January 6, 1928 to his parents William and Sarah Eiffler. He grew up and was educated in Howard County. Corky served his country in World War II as a member of the Army's 11th Airborne Division. He was a paratrooper until a knee injury prohibited him from jumping out of airplanes. Corky was an avid fisherman and he loved to drive his classic 1953 Nash with his dog Tiger. The children at the church referred to him as the "candy man" because he always had candy for them.
