Whitney Elizabeth Tjepkes, 14, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, October 11, 2004, in a vehicular accident S.E. of Grundy Center. Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M., Thursday, October 14, 2004, at the Grundy Center High School Auditorium, in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Larry Hoop of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church and Pastor David Turner of the American Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the American Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 13, 2004. The Engelkes - Ables Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established at the Liberty Bank in Grundy Center.
Whitney was born March 17, 1990 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son Curt and Nancy (Dinnes) Tjepkes. Whitney was a freshman at the Grundy Center High School. She was active in the Grundy Center Drill Team and Bobbi's Fancy Dancers, the School Choir, the F.F.A. and was active in the local 4H club. Last year she played in the Band and was on the basketball team. She was also active in the Youth group at the American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her father: Curt and his wife Julie Tjepkes of Grundy Center; her mother Nancy and her husband Dan Hemann of Grundy Center; a sister: Christina Tjepkes of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and a brother: Nate Hemann of Grundy Center; 5 step brothers: Trent Burg of Des Moines, Iowa, Thad and Adam Burg of Waterloo, Iowa, Jason Hemann of Dike, Iowa and Justin Hemann of Cedar Falls, Iowa; paternal grandparents: Arnold and Minetta Tjepkes of Grundy Center, Iowa; and maternal grandmother Barbara and her husband Jim Musch of Dunkerton, Iowa
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather: Dale Dinnnes
