Wendell K. Hoekstra, 90, of Eldora, Iowa died on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating. Burial will follow in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Friday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora and at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Wendell was born February 24, 1923 in Wellsburg, Iowa, son of Benjamin and Louise (Akkerman) Hoekstra. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to Margaret French also in 1943. Margaret died in 1995 and Wendell then married Emma Hazelwood in 1997. Emma died in 2007.
Wendell was a master stone mason and plasterer, and had worked for Gethman Construction and also as an independent contractor. He was a charter member of the Steamboat Rock Boat Club, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his sons, Allan (Patricia) Hoekstra of Coconut Creek, Florida and Benjamin Hoekstra of Iowa Falls; and by grandchildren, David Hoekstra of Lagrange, Illinois, Courtney Hoekstra of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jason Hoekstra of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Jonathon Hoekstra of Tulsa, Oklahoma . He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wives, Margaret and Emma; sons, David and Timothy; by brothers, Cornelius and Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Hoekstra.
