Walter William Petersen, 82, of Gladbrook, Iowa, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown of natural causes. Memorial services will be 1:30 P.M., Monday, July 11, 2005 at Salem Church of Lincoln in Lincoln, Iowa. Pastor Wade Ditty will officiate. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery near Gladbrook, Iowa. American Legion Post #127 will conduct graveside services. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. French-Hand Funeral Home is taking care of funeral arrangements.
Walter was born April 29, 1923, in Traer, Iowa, the son of William Fredrick and Mayme A. (Kvidera) Petersen. He spent his first 9 years in Traer and the family moved to Gladbrook. Walter graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1942. He served his country during WWII serving in the South Pacific from 1944-1946. Walter was united in marriage to Neva Rose Ehrig on June 15, 1957 at the Amity United Presbyterian Church. Walter farmed for 45 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Salem Church of Lincoln where he served on the church board, the American Legion Post #127 of Gladbrook, Iowa, and the Lincoln Coop Board.
He is survived by his wife: Neva a son: Douglas Walter Petersen of Newton, Iowa; a daughter: Sara Lynn Petersen of Mission, Kansas; and a son: William Ehrig and Crystal Lynn Petersen of Gladbrook, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jacob, Taylor and Levi Petersen; and a sister: Edna Morrow of Reinbeck, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister: Thelma Petersen.
