Virginia D. Barnes, 83, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Reinbeck, Iowa. Burial will be at Young Cemetery in Truro, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2013, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M, at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Virginia Dean was born November 7, 1929, in Melrose, New Mexico the daughter of Shirley Oren and Leona (Berry) Hughes. She grew up in the Melrose area and then the family moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1941. Virginia joined the Women's Army Corp serving from 1951 – 1953. She was united in marriage to Kenneth LaVerne Barnes on August 29, 1953 in Eau Claire, WI. After their marriage they lived in Waterloo, Iowa before moving to the farm east of Reinbeck. She enjoyed playing cards and making crafts for her family and friends. Each Christmas Virginia would make ornaments for her grandchildren. But most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Michael) Radl of Guttenberg, Kristine Butterfield of Reinbeck, Kenneth Lynn Barnes of Independence and Konnie Lee Neal of Reinbeck; grandchildren, Jamie(Michael) Blume, Jennifer Radl, Sara (Troy) Barnes, Matthew Butterfield, Ryan DeBoer, Kenneth Edwin Barnes and Beau Neal and 16 great grandchildren: siblings, Velma Miller, Marjorie Cearley, Covita Bade and Troy Hughes,
Preceding her in death was her parents, husband, Kenneth; grandson, Daniel Butterfield; great granddaughter, Ava Barnes; son-in-law, Craig Willaby; siblings, Shirlene Anderson, Jake Hughes, Erma Hughes, Ronald Hughes, Jerry Hughes and Dalton Hughes.
