Violet Henze

November 24, 1921 — April 18, 2017

Violet L. Henze, 95, of Grundy Center, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care Unit. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Orchard Hill Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Violet was born on November 24, 1921 on the family farm in Grundy County near Dike, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry & Annie (Rewerts) Hayes. She was raised on the family farm west of Dike. Violet graduated from Dike High School in the class of 1939. She was united in marriage to George Henze on September 25, 1945 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Parkersburg. Together they welcomed three daughters into their family. She was a devoted mother and farm wife. For two decades, she was also a loving caregiver to her mother Annie, who passed away at the age of 102. Violet babysat for local families for many years.

Violet was an active member of the American Lutheran Church. She also loved her garden. She cultivated beautiful flowers and vegetables. Violet's true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Lavelle (Jerry) Fisher of Moville, IA, Janelle Jones of Kirkwood, MO and Ardelle (Cal) Brody of Waverly, IA; 9 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; and her brother Virgil in infancy.
