Viola M. Vasey

Viola Margaret Vasey, born on August 7, 1917, in Rural Lincoln Township, Iowa, at home, and peacefully departed this world on August 24, 2024, in Grundy Center, Iowa at the age of 107. She was a remarkable woman whose life was a tapestry woven with dedication, joy, and a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew her.

Viola's early years were filled with hard work, tending the family farm while her brothers served their country during wartime. This instilled in her a strong work ethic, a quality that served her well throughout her life. After she had her fill of farm life, she embraced a different path. She worked in a defense plant in Omaha, Nebraska, working on the Enola Gay airplane, then becoming a secretary at Laughlin Air Force base in California. Here, her organizational skills and hard-working nature shone brightly, leaving an indelible mark on her colleagues.

She was a steadfast member of the YMCA for many years, embodying her favorite motto: "Stay Active, don't go to the Rocking Chair." This philosophy guided her throughout her life, inspiring those around her to embrace healthy living and vitality. Viola was known for her daily ritual of enjoying a glass of wine each evening at 5pm; a delightful reminder of her belief in savoring the simple pleasures in life.

Viola loved her church and the fellowship it offered. She was an adamant prayer warrior for anyone in need.

A passionate traveler, Viola cherished the opportunities she had to explore far and wide, especially relishing the adventures offered by NPC bank trips. Whether it was walking or riding her bicycle, she found joy in movement and the beauty of the world around her.

Viola is preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Vasey, her parents, William and Ella Bern, and her brothers Elmer (Orleen) Bern, Marvin (Evelyn) Bern, Leslie (Emma) Bern, sister Arlene Bern and nephew Gary Bern. She is survived by cherished nieces, Carolyn (Gerald) Riley, Judith (Darryl) Widmayer and Marlis (Larry) Helland, Bonnie (Bob) Murty, who will forever hold her memory close in their hearts

Her life, filled with devotion and love, will be celebrated through visitation and memorial services held at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to gather on September 6, 2024, to honor the legacy of a woman who continued to inspire others with her undying spirit.

Viola Margaret Vasey was more than just a name; she was a beacon of positivity and resilience, reminding us all to cherish each moment and stay active, in body and spirit. Her warm laughter and heartfelt wisdom will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her.

Memorials may be made in Viola's name to the Youth Scholarship Fund at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.
