Veronica P. Saylor, 84, of Eldora, Iowa died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial for Veronica will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with Father Tony Kruse officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Veronica Pearl McCarty, daughter of Thomas and Pearl Bales McCarty was born September 3, 1931 in Eldora, Iowa. Veronica received her education in Eldora, graduating from Eldora High School in 1950. In her early years, Veronica was a singer in a local orchestra and worked as a waitress. In 1950, she married Erwin Vincent Saylor in Eldora where the couple made their home. Veronica's main vocation was as a homemaker. Following Erwin's death, she worked as a home health aide for several years. Veronica was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, loved playing solitaire, solving crosswords, bird watching, and also was a volunteer at local nursing homes.
Survivors include her niece and nephew, Don and Marlene Shaver of Altoona, IA; sisters-in-law, Rita (Jim) Pagel, Donna Allbee, and Karen (Jim) Priske all of Eldora, IA; granddaughter, Kari Ita of Burlington, IA; grandsons, Michael Ita of Burlington, IA; Brent Ita of St. Louis, MO; several nieces and nephews and friends, Joe and Pat Fuchs of Eldora, IA.
In addition to her parents, Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Saylor; daughter, Mary Ita; grandson, Tim Bolte; two sisters and two brothers.
