Reinbeck

Verone Sharon Nederhoff, 84, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, with a lunch following the service and burial at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery following the lunch.

Verone was born on August 25, 1940, in Holland, Iowa, the daughter of Menno and Anna (Meyer) Venenga. She was raised on her parents’ farm and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1958. She married Marvin Nederhoff on December 23, 1958, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. The couple was blessed with three children, Rhonda, Randy, and Deb.

Verone worked for Dr. Morisako following high school and until she and Marvin started their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She babysat for several families while raising their children and only returned to working outside the home when their youngest daughter was in high school. At that time, she went to work for the Grundy County Memorial Hospital at its clinic in Wellsburg and later diligently worked as a Deputy County Auditor for Grundy County for many years, retiring in 2005.

She was an active member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, serving on the Women’s Missionary Society and singing in the choir for many years. She accompanied a children’s choir and directed a men’s quartet, The Inspirations, of which Marvin was a member. She taught Vacation Bible School. Verone and Marvin led the youth group at Colfax for several years. As a young couple, Verone and Marvin joined other young couples in a group called The Mariners. The bonds formed and friendships made in that group have lasted through all the years.

Verone’s unwavering love for her husband and family knew no bounds. She was their biggest supporter and tireless encourager. Her true joy was in caring for and serving those she loved fiercely – her husband, children, and grandchildren, as well as her parents, siblings, and their children. She compassionately served others in the church and the community. Verone was kind, thoughtful, and creative, often making gifts for others. She was resourceful and organized and enjoyed maintaining a beautiful, welcoming home. Many annual family vacations were spent at Clear Lake as the children were growing up. In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Verone and Marvin took their family on a cruise to the Caribbean with the Gaither Vocal Band.

In 2003 Verone was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. She and Marvin bravely faced this challenge and worked together to retain her strength and abilities for many years, always maintaining a sense of humor and optimism.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marvin, of 66 years; their daughter, Rhonda (Terry) Deters, son, Randy (Colette) Nederhoff, and daughter, Deb (Brad) Meints; five grandchildren, Bill Deters (Cari Ross), Ben (Abbye) Deters, Jocelyn (Christian) Schlenker, Ross Nederhoff, and Jensen Nederhoff; and six great-grandchildren, Vivian, Eleanor, and Isla Deters and Elliette, Jonas, and Callahan Schlenker; her brothers, Ron Venenga and Norman (Katie) Venenga; her sister, LaVonne (Vic) Casey; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Odie and Eita (Bunger) Nederhoff, brothers, Delmar (Donna) Venenga and Wendall (Jean) Venenga, brothers-in-law, Hank (Lorraine) Nederhoff, George (Donna) Nederhoff, and Art (Bev) Nederhoff, and sister-in-law, Pearl (Paul) VanSoelen.
