Vernon Mackie

Vernon Winfield Mackie, 66, of Grundy Center, went to be with the Lord on Thursday March 23, 2006 at his residence in Grundy Center.

Vernon was born September 29, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harvey C. and Agnes (Dooyema) Mackie. He grew up in rural Grundy Center attended country school until the 9th grade and then attended Grundy Center High School graduating in 1958. Vernon married Betty Jackson on July 26, 1975 in Missouri. Vernon owned and operated Vernon W. Mackie Trucking since 1958. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Trucking and his grandchildren were the light of Vernon's life.

Vernon by his wife: Betty of Grundy Center, Iowa; 6 children: Emily Lanigan & fiancAshe Todd Briddle of Oran, Iowa, Clinton & Sarah Mackie of Holland, Iowa, Curtis & Deb Mackie of Grundy Center, Iowa, Jay & Kathy Mackie of Durant, Iowa, Karla & John Joerger of Readlyn, Iowa, Chad Mackie of Grundy Center, Iowa; 3 stepsons: Curt & Velvet Kiewiet of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Steve & Jeni Kiewiet of Reinbeck, Iowa, Gary Kiewiet & Mindy Greany of Grundy Center, Iowa; 31 great grandchildren: Jordin & Rachel Lanigan, Makenzie & Tegan Briddle, Abena, Brody, Jesse, Carter & Nevaeh Mackie, Alicia, Chirstine, Nick & Michelle Mackie, Wesley & Kyle Mackie, Jared, Adam, & Jacob Jeorger, Zach & Mackenzie Mackie, Brandi & Megan Kiewiet, Tye & Trey Sparks, Melody, Cody, Kelsey & Cortney Kiewiet, Brenton Kiewiet, Eli & Hannah Lane; a sister: Marceline Agnes Romig & her husband, Dave of Midlothian, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents: Harvey & Agnes Mackie.
