VerDene Rust

VerDene Rust, 92, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Creekside Senior Living in Grundy Center.  A visitation for VerDene will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, followed by her funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church.  Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with a luncheon following at the Bethany Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

VerDene Krull, daughter of Chris and Delia (Niehaus) Krull was born on October 5, 1925.  She received her education in Grundy Center, graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1943.  VerDene pursued her education, graduating from a business college in Waterloo.  On November 17, 1950, she married Harm A. Rust in Grundy Center.  Following their marriage, the couple started farming in the area until retiring in 1978 and moving into Grundy Center. VerDene then worked at Spokesman Press until retiring in the early 1990’s.  She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church where she was active in U.P.W., taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years and assisted in the ladies serving group. VerDene loved playing cards, vegetable gardening and flower gardening, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She crocheted over 1900 that were gifts for families around the world. She created beautiful handwork of all kinds. VerDene especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, Joel and Jennifer.

Survivors include her son, Harvin (Jolene Pickering) Rust of Grundy Center; daughter, Brenda (Cliff) Obeirne of Milton WI; grandchildren, Joel (Amanda Dunn) Rust of Holland, and Jennifer Rust of Grundy Center. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harm A. Rust and her son, Bob Rust.
