Verdena Brower, 93, of Holland, Iowa, died from natural causes on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at her home in Holland, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg, Iowa, with Pastor Gary Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg. Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2008, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Verdena was born August 6, 1914, at her maternal grandparents' farm northeast of Wellsburg, Iowa, in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Bertha (Olthoff) Kaiser. She was baptized on November 29, 1914, by Rev. Carl Heinrich. She attended Shiloh #1 through the eighth grade, and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1932. On September 15, 1937, she was united in marriage to Carl Brower at St. Paul's Lutheran. They lived most of their life in Holland, Iowa. She was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Wellsburg. She loved to read and flower garden and she played the organ by ear.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Brower and his wife Darlyne of Holland, Iowa; Bernard Brower of Holland; Charles Brower of Holland; two daughters, Mary Brower of Holland; and Nancy Brower of Holland;
two grandchildren, Kim Brower of Grundy Center and Kyle Brower and his wife (Tara) of Jesup, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Greenley Brower of Jesup, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Berdean Graham of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and VerJean Brower of Allen, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; one sister, Mary Walters; six brothers-in-law, Eiltert Walters, Jr., Edwin Brower, Edward Aswegan, Dale Reisinger, William ?Hank? Graham, and Calvin Brower; and three sisters-in-law, Esther Aswegan, Alice Reisinger, and Alma June Brower.
