Vera was born October 16, 1922, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Walter and Lila (Essex) Cone. She was educated in the Los Angeles School System-graduating from high school in 1940. After graduating from high school, Vera was employed as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company in Los Angeles. On February 28, 1947, Vera was united in marriage to John E. Eller, from Radcliffe, Iowa, after he returned home from serving in the United States Army during WWII. They were married in South San Gabriel, California. After their marriage, they made their home in rural Radcliffe, where they began farming. The couple remained on the farm until 1981, when they retired and moved to Eldora. Vera's husband John died on August 8, 2005, and Vera continued to make Eldora her home. Vera was an active member of the Eldora United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, and had been the director of the Reading Program. She was an extraordinary cook and baker. Vera enjoyed needlework-especially crocheting and embroidery. She was also a talented seamstress. Vera will always be remembered for her strong faith, generosity and compassion for others. Her kind heart and caring spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Vera's grace and acceptance in the face of life's challenges will be an inspiration to all who shared in her journey.
