Tom Cross

Tom G. Cross, 64, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence, Iowa. Burial will be at 1:30 pm following the services at Eden Cemetery in Rhodes, Iowa. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Masonic services beginning at 7 pm.

Tom was born December 22, 1946, in Eldora, Iowa, son of Gene Cross and Alice Alexander. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1967 to 1969. He had been employed by Coil Oil Company of Rockford, Illinois from 1970 until 1986, the cities of State Center and Liscomb a as policeman, the Marshall County Secondary Road Dept. from 1980 to 1995 serving as the employee union president for several years, and the Iowa Veteran's Home from 1995 to 1999 also serving as union vice-president for a time. In 2003 Tom became ordained as a minister in Georgia and had preached at several churchs which he was very proud of. Tom had most recently been volunteering at the Lodge Redemption Center in Eldora.

Tom was a member of Montaque Lodge No. 117 at Eldora and had been a Master Mason since 1969, attaining 32A
Surviving are his children, Brian Cross (Ashley Wills) of Melbourne and Gidget Trask and her husband Matthew of Renwick; sisters, Beth (Dean) Buck of Rhodes, Penny (Walter) Drew of Kite, Georgia, and Tina (Leonard) Headrick of Kite; brothers, Jerry (Flora) Cross of Polo, Illinois, Craig Cross of Haldane, Illinois, Gregory Bachman of Rockford, Illinois, Paul Stressman of Woodward, and Gene (Rosie) Cross of Kite; by grandchildren, Chad Cross and Keaton Trask; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
