Thelma L. McCall, 90, of Eldora, Iowa, died Sunday, August 5, 2007, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Following a private family burial at Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Eldora, Memorial Services will be 1:30 P.M., Thursday, August 9, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Eldora, with Dr. Robert Domokos officiating. Thelma was born April 2, 1917, at home on the farm in rural Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Landis and Lela Lohr (Baasch) Heltibridle. She attended rural country school in Grundy County and the graduated from Grundy Center High School. From 1935 to 1938, Thelma taught rural country school in Grundy County. On June 3, 1938, Thelma was united in marriage to Howard Wendell McCall at her parent's home. After their marriage, they made Eldora their home. Thelma worked for sixteen years in food service at the Eldora Elementary School. Her husband Howard died on August 16, 1977, and Thelma continued to make Eldora her home.
Thelma was a sixty-year member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora, where she had taught Sunday school and Bible School and was active in the Ladies Circle. She also loved flower gardening and was an excellent cook.
She is survived by two sons- Lauren McCall and his wife Sharon of Eldora, Iowa; David McCall and his wife Kathy of Eldora, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters- Lola Callaway and her husband Glen of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; Irene Naumann of Eldora, Iowa; one sister-in-law- Maris Byrnes of Grundy Center, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard McCall; and two brothers Dwight Heltibridle and Lyle Heltibridle.
