Terry Lee Folkerts, 68, of Eldora, passed away at home on Friday, January 15, 2016. Visitation will be held on Sunday January 17, 2016 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. Terry was born on April 30, 1947 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa to his parents Harry and Lucille "Dolly" (Eilers)Folkerts. Terry graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in the Class of 1966. He then attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls for two years. In 1968, Terry traveled with a gospel team associated with the North American Baptist Church called God's Volunteers. During his tour with the Volunteers, he participated in music, gospel magic, chalk drawings, storytelling, and visitation.

In August of 1969, he was married to Janet Havens. He began work with the Woolworth Company in advertising, advancing over the years to assistant advertising director in New York City. His work with the Woolworth Company took him to job sites throughout the Mid Atlantic Region.

Terry and his family moved back to Steamboat Rock in 1984. In 1999, he started the video production company Historic Photo Archives. Working with museums, universities and historical societies in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, his desire was to preserve history in video formats. He produced a number of historical documentaries which present a great deal of Hardin County history.

In August of 2015, Terry and Janet moved to Eldora, Iowa. It was discovered through word of mouth and research that the house that they had purchased had been built by his late father, Harry Folkerts, in the late 1940's. Harry's handwriting was found on the sheet rock in the walls to confirm this discovery.

Terry had numerous hobbies which included a love for the outdoors: hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and gardening. His father taught him carpentry skills which he used on many home projects. As a child he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock. He belonged to the Steamboat Rock Historical Society, Hardin County Historical Society, Iowa Historical Society, and Greenbelt Conservation Board. Terry's true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Terry is survived by his wife Janet; his children Rex (Tonya) Folkerts and Angie (Steve) Kerchner; his grandchildren Rhianna and Olivia Folkerts, Hannah, Gracelyn and Sam Kerchner and step grandchildren Tanner (Brooke), Mavrick (Safira) and Metric Clark; his sister Sara Lou (David) Wolff; nieces Lindsay Wolff and Sara & Stacey Betsinger and his nephew Josh Wolff. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Mary Betsinger.
