Subrenia Ann Nielsen, 48, of Steamboat Rock, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 11 at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock with Pastor Harrison Lippert officiating. Burial will follow at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
She was born April 27, 1956 in Lexington, Kentucky, the daughter of Emery Eugene and Imogene (Bennett) Thomas. Subrenia graduated from high school in 1974 and latter attended Auburn University for Dietary Studies. On December 10, 1976 she was united in marriage to Eric Nielsen in Onawa, Iowa. Subrenia managed the Palm Beach County Blue Cross and Blue Shield office for several years. After the couple moved to Steamboat Rock Subrenia ran two restaurants, Subrenia's in Eldora and then in Steamboat Rock. She later worked in the Dietary office for the Eldora Hospital and the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center. Subrenia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock. She loved to cook and she loved her cats.
Surviving is her husband, Eric; a sister Jennifer and her husband Jim Rosenlieb; brother: Danny Eugene Thomas; sister: Billie Jo and her husband Ruud Umans; and a brother: Carlton Thomas all of Florida. She was preceded in death by her son: Emery Lad Nielsen, her parents, and her sister Brenda Gail Thomas.
