Stanley Howard Sherer, 74, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at his residence, under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be
11:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Matt Miller, Pastor Larry Doughan and Pastor Lance Bertram officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Grundy Center, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 28, 2007, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, where the family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
Stanley Howard Sherer was born October 3, 1932, in Lyman, Iowa, the son of Howard William and Mildred Katherine Louise (Rabe) Sherer. Stan was raised on a farm in Cass County, attended rural Cass Co. Schools and then attended Jr. and Sr. School in Cromwell, graduating with the Cromwell class of 1952. On September 6, 1952 he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Pool in Cromwell, Iowa. Stan started working for Hargrave Construction. He then worked as the Chief Engineer of the Power Plant in Greenfield, Iowa for 26 years. In October 1978 they moved to Grundy Center where he worked as the Chief Engineer in the Power Plant retiring in October 1994. Stan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center and the Pine Lake Saddle Club. He also was a volunteer Fireman with the Greenfield, Iowa Fire Dept. He was a former member of the Creston Elks Club, the Grundy Center Lions Club and the JC?s in Greenfield.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Grundy Center; a son: Mick and wife Kitty Sherer of Greenfield, Iowa; 4 daughters: Connie and husband Dennis Herrick of Yakima, Washington, Shelia and husband Tim Clark of Grundy Center, Iowa, Linda and husband David Bertram of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Christine and husband Melvin Bowen of Grundy Center, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren a sister Lois and husband Richard Dix of Greenfield, Iowa and a brother Dale and wife Peggy Sherer of Tempe, Arizona; a mother ? in ? law: Marie Pool of Orient, Iowa and many nieces and nephews and many surrogate grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Howard and Mildred Sherer; 2 sisters: Dorothy DeBord and Marian Embree.
