Siegfred "Sieg" Petersen, 99, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, 10:30 A.M. at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Rev. Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow memorial services at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck.
Siegfred A. Petersen was born on May 24, 1912 in Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Chris and Johanna (Thompson) Petersen. He was raised in Reinbeck and attended the Reinbeck Community Schools. Sieg served his country during WWII in the South Pacific from 1942 – 1945. On January 12, 1951, Sieg was united in marriage to Caroline Ohrt in Gladbrook, Iowa. After the two were married, Sieg and Caroline made their home in Reinbeck. Sieg worked for the Reinbeck Canning Company in Reinbeck, Iowa for 30 years and later worked for Merle Lynch until his retirement.
He was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck and was a member of the American Legion Action Post 242 of Reinbeck.
Surviving Sieg is his daughter; Carol Phillips of El Cajon, CA; three granddaughters Carolyn (Richard) Castrillion, Johanna (Tim) Roberts & Lorraine (Todd) Stevens all of California; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren; a sister Helga Stirler and nephew Larry of Reinbeck; 2 brothers-in-law Marvin (Manetta) Ohrt of Clutier and Calvin (Barbara) Ohrt of Marshalltown; two sisters-in-law Phyllis Wessely of Waterloo and Barbara Ohrt of Marshalltown; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Caroline; son-in-law Larry Phillips; brothers-in-law John Stirler, John Terbl, Leonard Ohrt and Robert Wessely; one sister-in-law Arlene Terbl.
