Shirley Anne Meyeraan, 81, of Grundy Center, IA, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Grundy Care Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Shirley was born on May 28, 1936 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to her parents Russell and Mable (Looney) See. Shirley was raised in Weleetka until the age of 9 years old. Her family then moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where she graduated from Waterloo West High School. She was married to Virgil Lewis, they later divorced. She then was united in marriage to Gary Meyeraan on August 7, 1982. Shirley was a waitress and restaurant floor manager at Freeman’s Café in Waterloo for over 30 years retiring in 1996.
Shirley loved to crochet and made very complex items such as angels and dolls for her family. She enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers. She was a great baker and cook and was well known within the family for her scalloped corn. Shirley enjoyed going to country dances with her family and loved spending time camping with her kids at the “River.” Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her husband Gary Meyeraan of Grundy Center, IA; her four daughters, Teresa (David) Gerken of Cedar Falls, IA, Angela (Thomas) Smith of Waterloo, IA, Brenda (Thomas) Polson of Cedar Falls, IA and Sandra Tanner of Dubuque, IA; two sons, Duane (Darcy) Lewis of Waterloo, IA and John (Melissa) Lewis of Delhi, IA; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Becky (Brian) Biermann of Waterloo, IA, Cheryl (Neal) Witt of Dunkerton, IA and Jody (Mike) Seegers of De Soto, WI; two brothers Chuck See of Fort Meyers, FL and Tracy (Becky) See of Bella Vista, AK. She was preceded in death by her parents.
