Shirley A. McCarthy, 97, of Eldora, passed away on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Eldora with Pastor Mark Chapman officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at the church. Burial will follow funeral services at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora.
Shirley was born on April 24th, 1914 in rural Eldora, Iowa. She married Edgar McCarthy on October 28, 1937 at the Baptist Parsonage in Webster City, Iowa. Edgar preceded Shirley in death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora. Shirley loved tending to her flower garden in her free time. She was known for her candy making and local shops in Eldora sold her candy for many years.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edgar.
