Sherry Rich

Sherry L. Rich, age 54 of Stout, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The funeral service for Sherry will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg 501 4th Street, Parkersburg, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 28th at the Abels Funeral & Cremation Service – Dike Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Sherry was born on June 28, 1964 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin E. and Sharon (Frank) Nissen. She attended Waterloo Community Schools and was a 1982 graduate of Waterloo East High School. On August 2, 1986, she was united in marriage to Joseph Allen Rich at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo. To this union, three children were born.

Sherry worked most of her life waitressing which she enjoyed & then did embroidery work. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. In her free time, Sherry enjoyed craft projects at home, sewing and scrapbooking. Sherry had a niche for making excellent pie crust & strawberry rhubarb was often the favorite! During the fall, she loved traveling to different parts of the state to enjoy the changing leaves and colors of Mother Nature.

Sherry was able to enjoy a trip to Nashville, TN when their son moved to the area. Her greatest joy was becoming a mother and raising her children.

She is survived by her husband Joe of Stout; her children Jay (Kylie Johnson) Rich of Nashville, TN, Casandra (Evan) Robertson of Des Moines, IA and Amber Rich of Bend, OR; one sister, Laura Nissen of Kansas City, MO & three brothers, Kevin (Cindy) Nissen of Pflugerville, TX, Danny (Maryls) Nissen of Waterloo, IA and Pete Nissen of Austin, TX; her grand dogs Tank, Hazel, Beau and Peaches. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents.
