Sharon Steelman

Sharon L. Steelman, age 76, of Union, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Eldora United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Sharon was born on October 11, 1937 in Lake City, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Ruth (Ames) Arkland. She was raised in Eldora and graduated from Eldora High School in the Class of 1955. Sharon was united in marriage to Jody Steelman on April 20, 1956 at the Eldora United Methodist Church. They welcomed three very special daughters into their family and enjoyed 58 wonderful years together.

Sharon worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Farm Service in Eldora, Steelman Boot and Saddlery, Pine Lake Country Club and AgriPro Seeds from where she retired. She was a member of the Gifford United Methodist Church where she was a member of the W.S.C.S. She was also a longtime member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. Sharon was a true servant of people.

Sharon is survived by her husband Jody; daughters Valerie Lamasters (John Dennis), Leslie (Maurice) Hobson and Robin (Scott) Paterni; grandchildren Josh Lamasters, Seth Lamasters, Eli Lamasters, Cody Kane, Cayne Hobson, Celsey Stevenson, Cole Paterni and Kyli Paterni and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers Dennis Arkland and Terry Arkland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Jerry Arkland and son-in-law Terry Lamasters.
