Sarah Isabelle Modlin, 96, of Eldora, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Eldora United Methodist Church. Burial will be held privately by the family at the Eldora City Cemetery.
Sarah was born on Christmas Day, 1916 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Dollie (Warmbrodt) Wilson. She was raised in Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School with the Class of 1934. She attended the Cedar Falls Teachers College and on September 15, 1937 Sarah was united in marriage to Gerald Modlin in Janesville, Iowa. They moved to the Eldora area in 1939 and welcomed three children into their family. Sarah was a good farmer's wife, helping her husband in all aspects of farm life. She and Gerald moved to town in 1988 and Gerald passed away on March 27, 1989. Sarah continued to live at home in Eldora until October of 2009 when she moved to Valley View Nursing and Rehab, where she passed away.
Sarah was a long time member of the Eldora Methodist Church, a member of the "Do Nothing Club", Farm Bureau, Rebecca's and the Whitten Women's Club. She was also very involved with the Methodist Church Circles.
Sarah is survived by her children, Dennis Modlin of Trempealeau, WI, Dick Modlin (Judith Stark-Modlin) of Chico, CA and Joyce (Frank) Lawler of Eldora, IA; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald; brothers Crawford Wilson and Wallace Wilson; sister Catherine Wilson; and daughter-in-law Marilyn Modlin.
