Saever "Sy" Ellis, 71, of Kissimmee, FL of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Winter Park, FL. A gathering to Celebrate Saever's Life will be held Friday, December 26, 2013 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm in the American Legion Room at the Reinbeck Memorial Building in Reinbeck, Iowa. Military Rites will be held at 4:00 pm in the Memorial Building parking lot by American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Saever was born on May 21, 1943 in Reykjavik, Iceland. He was the son of Raymond and Guthran (Gudmonsdottir) Ellis. Saever's family moved to the United States when he was 4 years old. He attended school in Bradgate, Iowa. Saever served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In June of 1971 he married Sandra Stirler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born Misti, Mike, and Damon. Sandra passed away on November 20, 1990. He married Anita Beach on April 1, 2006. He was a truck driver for over 35 years before retiring. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Saever was a member of the American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck and AMVET Post #81 of Hudson.
Saever is survived by his wife, Anita of Florida; children, Misti Ellis and Mike Ellis both of Reinbeck; 2stepsons, Tony and Kevin; and step grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Elaine) Ellis and John (Linda) Ellis both of Ogden, IA; a sister Doris (Dale) Gard of Ogden, IA; mother-in-law, LaVonne Stirler of Reinbeck; sisters-in-law Marcia Stirler of Cedar Falls, IA and Linda (Dennis) Romitti of Minnetonka, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sandra; son, Damon; sister, Claire.
