Ruth Irene Johnson, 83, of Eldora, died at her home from natural causes on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa with Pastor Harrison Lippert officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Ruth was born January 20, 1927 in Eldora, Iowa, daughter of William and Ethel (Doud) Allen. On November 18, 1945 Ruth was united in marriage to Calvin Johnson in Iowa Falls. Ruth and Calvin made their home in Eldora where they raised their children, Susan and Allen. Ruth took care of Cal during a lingering illness until his death on March 14, 2002, and was currently residing independently at the Carriage House Apartments in Eldora.
Ruth worked at various retail stores in Eldora and also worked as custodian for the First Baptist Church of Eldora for many years. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora where she enjoyed working with the youth, singing with the choir and a ladies sextet. She was currently a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed crafting, sewing, baking and cooking, and loved to spend special events and birthdays with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Quaife and her husband, Pete, of Marshalltown; son, Allen Johnson and his wife, Deb, of Eldora: brothers, Frank Allen of Charles City and Robert (Karlene) Allen of Norco, California; sister, Margaret Hanson of Minnetonka, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kari (Dan) Diggins of Oskaloosa, Kyle Quaife of Boulder, Colorado, and Kelly (Jon) Harms of Kansas City, Missouri; great grandchildren, Braden, Jordan and Kirstin Diggins and Grant, Jared and Bryce Harms. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; her parents; sisters, Lillian Whiting and Mary Taylor; and by brother, Arthur Allen.
