Ruth Ellen (Baker) Davison, 79, of Eldora, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the Eldora United Methodist Church in Eldora, Iowa, with Pastor Richard Boatman officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2007, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at the Eldora United Methodist Church, where the family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to Dorothy's Senior Center or to the Eldora Public Library.
Ruth Ellen (Baker) Davison was born August 9, 1928, the daughter of George Henry and Gertrude (Weitzel) Baker, in Chicago, Illinois. She lived in Chicago with her family until 1938, when they moved to a farm in rural Grundy County, Iowa. Ruth attended Melrose Township #8 country school. She then graduated from Whitten High School with the class of 1946. Ruth furthered her education at the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching certificate. On March 31, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Dean W. Davison in Humboldt, Iowa. Ruth taught at the Eldora Junior High from 1948 to 1955. Ruth then stayed at home to raise her family, to which three children were born: George Dean, Kenneth Paul and Elizabeth Ellen. Ruth also kept books for the family business of construction and building material for many decades. Ruth enjoyed their many family travels to the British Isles, Europe, Russia and China during the years of 1983 to 1991. She later enjoyed the times she was able to spend visiting her grandchildren.
Ruth was a very active member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as a past president. Ruth also had also taught Sunday school and was active with the adult Sunday school class. Visitation ministry was a calling that Ruth felt very passionate about, and she visited many shut-ins. Ruth was also a member of the Eldora Women's Club, and a volunteer at Dorothy's Senior Center. She was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband Dean Davison of Eldora, Iowa; two sons- George Davison and his wife Anna of Cleveland, Ohio; Kenneth Davison and his wife Dawn of Wheaton, Illinois; one daughter Elizabeth Hopkins and her husband Paul of Clinton, Iowa; five grandchildren; three brothers-in-law-Bob Davison of Eldora; Clyde Davison and his wife Dorothy of Eldora; Warren Davison and his wife Marilyn of Mason City, Iowa; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law Paul Davison; and two sisters-in-law: Esther and Lela Davison.
