Roy Henry Tessau, born on October 15, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Emil and Emmi Tessau, left this world on January 24, 2025, in Grundy Center, Iowa.
A proud member of the Reinbeck community, Roy graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1954. He started his journey of service by joining the United States Army Reserve, demonstrating a commitment to his country that shaped his character and values. Roy began a career with Pioneer Hy-Bred, dedicating an impressive 37 years to the company, where his work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of his colleagues.
On June 13, 1969, Roy met and married the love of his life, Susan Kolpek Sprague. Their union marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership filled with shared dreams and family. Together, they raised two children, Michael (Angie) Tessau and Annette (Don) Stahl, who brought an abundance of joy into their lives. Roy was especially proud of his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren, Lindsay (Ryan) Eslick, Brandon (Marie) Tessau, Jeremy (Carrie) Stahl, and Kristen (Alec) Johnson, were the light of his eyes, and his 11 great-grandchildren, Nolan, Corbin, and Ryker Eslick; Matthew, Lincoln, Leah, Abby, and William Tessau; Krew and Kinzie Stahl; and Aria Johnson, were a source of immense pride and happiness.
Roy held several dear affiliations that enriched his life. He was a life member of the Lincoln AmVets Post #10 and actively participated in the Oak Leaf Country Club and the Reinbeck Community Church. These connections provided him with lasting friendships and community.
In addition to his many accomplishments, Roy's heart remained forever linked to those he loved deeply, including his beloved wife Susan, who survives him, and their children, Michael and Annette. He will be reunited in spirit with his deceased family, including his parents Emil and Emmi Tessau, his sisters Alice, Marlys and Mary Ann, and his twin brother Ray Tessau.
As we reflect on Roy's life, we remember a man of integrity, devotion, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, and a deep sense of community. An ardent supporter of his loved ones, Roy’s spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be held on February 1, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM, all at the Reinbeck Community Church, located at 505 Spruce Street, Reinbeck, Iowa. A graveside service with military honors at the Reinbeck Cemetery will follow the service.
Remembering Roy Henry Tessau is not just about the years he lived but the lives he touched and the love he nurtured.
