Roy W. Diamond, 96 of Conrad, Iowa, passed away on May 19, 2016 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Whitten Community Church in Whitten. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery with military Honors conducted by the Eldora American Legion-Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. –Roll-Harless #3974. Memorials may be directed to the Whitten Community Church.
Roy was born on April 22, 1920 in Baywood, Virginia, to his parents Otis and Viola (Hawks) Diamond. His first eleven years were spent in Virginia. He then moved with his family to Iowa. He received his education in Franklin & Hardin Counties. Roy spent 3 ½ years in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a glider pilot at Dalhart, Texas. He then went to Wichita Falls, Texas and attended airplane mechanic school. After school he was stationed at Fredrick, Oklahoma Air Base. It happened he opened that field and closed it as well. Roy ended his service in the Air Force as a truck driver, transporting supplies to other bases.
Roy was united in marriage to Rada Manning on April 22, 1945 in Tipton, Oklahoma. In February of 1946 he returned to the family farm near Whitten where he and his Dad operated a dairy for many years. Roy also worked at Hauser Implement for 8 years.
Roy was a member of the Whitten Community Church and the Eldora American Legion. He enjoyed International Tractors and Ford automobiles.
Roy is survived by his wife Rada; his sons Don (Connie) & Dave (Marge); his grandsons Anthony & Tim (Robbyn); his great-grandchildren Rhett, Madison, Claire & Colton Diamond; his sister Juanita (Ray) Hovick and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Geneva Emmert & Ann Eygabroad and his brother Ray Diamond.
