Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Wellsburg. Following the committal service, a celebration of life reception will be held at the Wellsburg Memorial Building. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Rod was born on March 25, 1966, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to his parents Marvin and Anna Mae (Schipper) Stahl. He was raised in Wellsburg, Iowa and graduated from Wellsburg High School in the class of 1984. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He served four years, one of them in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1988. Rod then returned home to begin his career farming and milking in Fern and later the family farm in Wellsburg.
Rod was united in marriage to Marcia Koch on July 24, 2004, on the farm. Together they opened Barn Stahl Farm in rural Wellsburg, Iowa. Rod also worked for the City of Wellsburg in the Maintenance Department, for various local farmers as a farmhand, and lastly at Panama Transfer in Wellsburg driving truck.
Rod was a member of the Wellsburg Community Club, where he served as a board member and past president. Rod was also a proud member of both the Wellsburg AMVETS # 91 and the Ackley American Legion Post 252. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was Santa Clause for many years for the Wellsburg Community Club. Rod loved working on his farm and caring for his animals. He enjoyed sharing them both with the visitors to the farm and was happy to run the mobile petting zoo and the live nativity. However, his true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish Rod’s memory are his wife Marcia; mother Anna Mae; his children Ryan Beenken, Lacy (Matt) Rose, and Jyll (Steve) Van Hamme; grandchildren Lane and Eli Rose, Layla and Meika Guevara, and Nile Van Hamme; brothers Don (Annette) Stahl and Darwin (Nancy) Stahl; sister Judy (Craig) Eiten and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Stahl.
