Roberta King

Roberta J. King, 86, of Hubbard, formerly of Eldora, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, Iowa . A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 14 ^th at the St. Paul Lutheran Church , 1105 Washington St. , Eldora , IA with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services at the church. Interment is private.

Roberta was born on December 21, 1923 in Union, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Grace (Goodwin) Pope. She attended school in Union, graduating from Union High School in 1941. She later met Carl J. King and the two were united in marriage on April 4 ^th , 1946 at Roberta’s parents’ home in Union . After Roberta and Carl were married, they moved to a farm south of Owasa. The couple welcomed 4 children.

Roberta worked for a short time in a factory in Waterloo, worked as a telephone operator in Union, sewed gun covers for Henson’s in Waterloo during the war, sold Avon products and most importantly, worked as a stay at home mother.

She as a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora and was a member of the Owasa Women’s Group. In her free time, Roberta enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle working, cooking and loved living the farm life. Most importantly, she was a wife and mother who loved her family and loved spending as much time with them as she could.

Roberta is survived be her husband of 64 years Carl of Eldora; children Cheryl

(Dr. David) Pence of Ankeny, IA, Susan (Mel) Barz of Georgetown, TX, Nancy (Jim) Racey of West Branch, IA and John King of Hubbard; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sister Irene Hart of Mason City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Gerald Pope and sisters Velma Steinfeldt and Janet Caster.

A memorial fund has been set at the Hardin County Savings Bank in Eldora in Roberta’s name.
