Robert A. "Bob" Wolthoff, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Cremation will follow, and a private committal service will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, April 18 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Bethany Presbyterian or Cedar Valley Hospice. Bob was born August 18, 1923 in Grundy Center, Iowa, son of Peter and Delia (Niehaus) Wolthoff. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1943 then helped his dad in the operation of his family's Shady Lane Dairy Farm. Bob served in the United States Army in Korea from 1946 to 1948. On June 18th, 1949 Bob was united in marriage to Betty Whittaker at the Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He worked for several dairies before retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church of which his grandfather Niehaus was a charter member. He had served several years on the board of deacons. Bob enjoyed dancing and golf, and the love of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Rod Wolthoff (Marta Kay) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tim Wolthoff (Nancy) of Grundy Center and Tom Wolthoff (Pamela) of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Wolthoff (Lucy Ann), Sarah Betts (Nick), Dr. Amy Wolthoff, Lindsay Petersen (Kevin), Alyson Wolthoff and Kyle Wolthoff; great-grandchildren, Austin Betts, Aiden Betts, Cayson Betts, Hunter Ann Wolthoff, McCoy Wolthoff and Kerr Wolthoff; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Wolthoff of Grundy Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Casper, Edward and Raymond Wolthoff; and sisters, Margaret Miller, Berdeen Reimers, Pearl Lamoni and Lillian Moats.
