Robert (Bob) Stephan, age 89, of Altoona, IA, formerly of Reinbeck, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Services will be held at St Gabriel's Catholic Church rural Reinbeck on Oct 4, 2023. Visitation will be at 9:30 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM. Following a light luncheon the burial will follow at Reinbeck Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Robert was born April 27, 1934 to Christopher and Grace (Stone) Stephan in New Hampton, Iowa. Robert graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1952. He attended Loras College for a year before joining the United States Naval Reserves. Bob married his beautiful wife and life partner, Jean Shoup on June 26, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, IA. Shortly after Robert and Jean married, they moved to Pensacola, FL for the Naval Reserves. He served overseas during his active duty service. Robert was discharged in 1960, and returned to Reinbeck. Robert and Jean had 4 children, Mike, Rita, Tim, and Ron and was actively involved in the Reinbeck community. He worked at various auto dealerships in Reinbeck. He and his brothers opened Stephan’s Dodge in 1963. Bob was a Boy Scout Leader and a Watkins dealer throughout his life. After retirement, Bob and Jean spent time traveling in their RV. They made sure their dog, Bubba, had plenty of donuts while co-piloting the motorhome. They visited family and enjoyed their time together. Robert moved to Altoona, IA with Jean in the fall of 2022 to be closer to family.
Robert is survived by his daughter in-law Sarah (Michael) Stephan of Reinbeck, IA; daughter Rita (Chuck) Felton of Granite Falls, MN; son Tim (Lisa) Stephan of Omaha, NE; and son Ron (Sue) Stephan of Altoona, IA.
Robert is survived by seven grandchildren: Chad (Heidi) Felton of Dawson, MN; Chris (Katie) Felton of Mankato, MN; Nicole (Troy) Wellendorf of Granite Falls, MN; Meghan (Ben) Zugg of Omaha, NE; Tyler (Abby Johnson) Stephan of Lawrence, KS; Ben (Jess) Hinds of Ankeny, IA; and Nikki Hinds of Des Moines, IA.
He is survived by eleven great grandchildren: Joseph, Thomas, Edward, David, Anne, and Robert Felton; Victoria Wellendorf; Theo Zugg; Ross and Otto Hinds; and Keymani Hinds
Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean, his son Michael, his brothers Ken, Donald, and Bruce, his parents Christopher and Grace, and his brother in-law Jack Shoup.
