Robert G. Dahms, 78, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, Iowa, with Pastor Claudia Tessmer officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, January 21, 2011, at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Robert Gustav Dahms was born September 25, 1932 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Gustav and Ella (Krueger) Dahms. Robert grew up in the Waverly area and graduated from Reinbeck high School with the class of 1952. After graduating he served his country in the United States Navy. Robert was united in marriage to Joan Marsh in Waterloo, Iowa on March 3, 1957. After his discharge from the Navy, Robert worked at Titus, John Deere, Shoup Farms and IBP and the last 13 years as a greeter at Walmart in Cedar Falls.
Robert loved the outdoors especially working in his garden. He loved to visit with people he was never one to be a stranger to anyone. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Robert was member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kerry Ann; son, Andrew Robert and two brothers, Edwin and Edward Dams.
Robert is survived by his wife of, Joan of Reinbeck; daughters, Karen and her husband Doug Wulf of Reinbeck, IA, Amy and her husband Randall Biggs of Watertown, NY; three grandchildren, Nathan Hunt of Marshalltown, IA, Holley Wulf of Reinbeck, IA, Sean Love of Watertown, NY; two step grand children, Joshua and Jessica Biggs of Watertown, NY; siblings, Lonney Chevalier of Cedar Falls, IA , Marian (Leonard) Jensen of Brigham City, UT, Lois Olson of Waterloo, Clarence (Shirley) Steggall of Decorah, Jeanna Stearns of Alagen, MI, Jerry (Bobbie) Steggall of Bakersfield, CA; sister in law, Mary Dams of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
