Richard "Rick" Pieper, 35, of Union, Iowa, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his home in Union. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora, Iowa. Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. A visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, with a vigil service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the mass on Thursday at the church.
Richard Joseph Pieper, son of Thomas and Mary (Baker) Pieper was born February 14, 1980, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from BCLUW High School in 1998. Rick attended Marshalltown Community College and graduated from Hawkeye Community College with his degree in Electronics Engineering. On August 10, 2002, he married Tasha Rae Strait at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple resided in Eldora for 10 years before moving to Union one year ago. He worked at Mechdyne Corporation as an Electronics Engineer for several years, and was currently employed at Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative in Union as a Network Administrator.
Rick was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, taught C.C.D. classes, was on the parish counsel, and the building and grounds committee. He was active in 4-H with his children, loved fishing, hunting and loved to watch movies and listen to music. He also enjoyed model rocketry and caring for his fish aquarium with his children. Most of all he was devoted to his family and extended family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tasha Pieper; son, Nicholas Scott Pieper; daughter, Leah Marie Pieper; his parents, Tom and Mary Pieper all of Union; sisters, Christine (Arthur, Jr.) Wilder of Muscatine; Deborah (Charles) Sams of Whitten; Jean (Shawn) Pieper Voshell of Des Moines; brothers, Anthony (Amy) Pieper of Beaman; Curt (Tracy) Pieper of Muscatine; Timothy Pieper of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorials may be given in Rick's memory to the Hardin County Savings Bank in Eldora.
