Richard D. Mitchell, 81, of Eldora, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at his home. Richard's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
Richard Dean Mitchell, son of Charles and Polly Gorham Mitchell was born June 24, 1934 in Eldora, Iowa. He received his education from various schools in Hardin County. On September 30, 1954, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War where he was stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged on February 5, 1957. On July 28, 1962, he married Judy Cowan in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple resided in Eldora. Richard was employed at the Iowa State Training School for Boys, where he worked for over 30 years until retiring. He enjoyed gardening and loved all of his cats.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy Mitchell of Eldora; son, Richard D. Mitchell, JR. of Manchester, CT; daughter, Laura M. Mitchell of Coralville, IA; sisters, Arlah Johnson of Eldora and Margaret Vanderheiden of Stuart, IA; Various Nieces and Nephews. Richard is also survived by his good friends Eldon and Genny Veld, Floyd Rinnels, and Mother-in-Law Peggy Dykes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Robert and Charles Mitchell; and sisters, Mary Mitchell and Arleene Zimmerman.
