Richard Lloyd Bonnett, 84, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away Tuesday September 8, 2015 at the Grundy Center Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held Friday, September 11th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, with burial at a later date in Bussey, Iowa.
Richard was born May 26, 1931 to Lloyd and Agnes (Vosburgh) Bonnett in Bussey, Iowa. He was raised in rural Bussey and graduated from Bussey High School in 1948. Richard married Marilyn Allgood on December 28, 1952 in Bussey. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Chemical Engineering Degree in 1954. He took his new bride, Marilyn to Akron, Ohio where he was a plant manager for Columbia Southern Chemical Company. In 1957 he moved to Waterloo where he worked in the Research and Development Department of Rath Packing. After moving his family to Eldora and working at Whink Products, he built and ran Quality Products till 1987 when he moved to Grundy Center. He was a true entrepreneur and always enjoyed and welcomed a new challenge. He was a dedicated family man and loved helping his children and grandchildren any way he could. He was a member of the Grundy United Methodist Church and the Masons Emerald Lodge #334 of Grundy Center.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, his daughter Lori (Gary) Riley of Iowa Falls; his sons, Kurt (Sonya) Bonnett of Winterset and Mike (Allison) Bonnett of Johnston. Grandsons: Josh (Jessica) Riley of Blair, NE, Jake Riley of Iowa Falls, Joey Riley of Ames; Eli and Zach Bonnett of Winterset. Granddaughters Lezlee (Justin) Askey of Commerce, GA; and Taylor Bonnett of Iowa City and Kate Bonnett of Johnston. Two great-grandsons; Kyzer Riley of Iowa Falls and Jaxon Askey of Commerce, GA. One brother James (Judy) Bonnett of Lovilia, Iowa; sister in-law, Beverly Bonnett of Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Douglas; brother, Delbert; and parents, Lloyd and Agnes Bonnett.
