Richard Billerbeck

Richard L. Billerbeck, 83, of Reinbeck, IA, died on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Following cremation Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Salem Church of Lincoln in Lincoln, Iowa. No Visitation is being planned. Memorial may be directed to the family.
Richard Lyle Billerbeck was born on December 1, 1927, in Lincoln, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Dorothy (Mathern) Billerbeck. Richard grew up in the Reinbeck area and attended school in Reinbeck and graduated from Reinbeck High School. Richard was drafted to the Army on November 8, 1950 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1952. After his tour of duty in the Army, Richard returned to the Reinbeck area and farmed. Richard raised Holstein dairy cows and was proud of the DHIA honors he received. In 1995 he quit farming and worked for Payless Cashway Lumber for 8 years and then worked for Pamida 4 years.
Richard was a member of Salem Church of Lincoln where he served on church board and sang in the choir for 40 years. He was past commander of the AMVETS and a Grundy county 4-H leader for many years. He was past president of the 7th district Holstein Association and past board member of Lincoln Co-op Elevator. He enjoyed the playing softball and bowling, in which he and his doubles partner, Bob Harris won the state AMVETS doubles tournament.
Richard is survived by brother, Robert (Shirley) Billerbeck of Reinbeck, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Haren.
