Reinhard J. Kalkwarf, 81, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died of natural causes, Wednesday 16, 2009, at the Grundy County Long Term Care Unit.
Reinhard was born February 18, 1928, in Wellsburg at the family home, the son of Reinhard and Marie (Berends) Kalkwarf. He attended country school then went to Dike High School graduating in 1946. Reinhard served 18 months in the Army during the Korean War. Reinhard worked for John Deere and Rath Packing before he started farming. He farmed until his retirement in 1991. Reinhard was a a former member of Salem Lutheran Church and a current member of the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center.
He is survived by his wife: Emma; 5 sons: Randal and wife JoAnn Kalkwarf of Roland, Iowa, Douglas and wife Julie Kalkwarf of Bettendorf, Iowa, James and wife Ellen Force of Des Moines, Iowa, Gary and wife Nancy Kalkwarf of Pella, Iowa, and Keith Kalkwarf of Grundy Center, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Melissa, Kristina, Jacob, Erin, Martin, Gregory, Bryon, Molly, Kristen, and Benjamin; a great granddaughter: Emily; 2 sisters: Berniece Blythe of Grundy Center, Iowa and Marlys Rops of Mason City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: George Kalkwarf and a grandson: David Kalkwarf.
