Raymond "Skip" Wical, 73, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, formerly of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 2, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Lee Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with military honors provided by Post 349 of the Grundy Center American Legion and AMVETS 17. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Raymond was born October 11, 1932, near Grundy Center, son of Lee and Frances (Hummel) Wical. He attended school in Grundy Center then entered the U.S. Army in 1953 serving with the 6th Armored Division during the Korean War. He was married to Nancy Clemons in 1959 and to this union was born three sons, Jay, Curt, and Randy. Raymond and Nancy later divorced. He did construction work for Vinton Construction in Eldora for many years and Chevertti Construction of Steamboat Rock for several years. He then worked for the Western Dressing Plant in Grundy Center. He had resided in Grundy Center, Eldora, and Mahtowa, Minnesota before spending the last 15 years in Oskaloosa.
He was a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars and motorcycles.
He is survived by his sons, Jay and his wife, Jill of Eldora, Curt of Fort Worth, Texas, and Randy of Comanche, Texas; sister, Platues "Wink" (Harold) Davis of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Mary Wical of Grundy Center, Phyllis Wical of Janesville, and Barb Wical Huntley of Stout; brother-in-law, Ray Brigan of Mahtowa, Minnesota; grandsons, Jared and James Wical; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Joe, Tom, Art, Milo "Deed", and an infant brother; and sister Nellie Brigan.
