Raymond Huisman

Raymond Dale Huisman, 85, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ray was born on January 13, 1928 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Nettie (Ross) Huisman. He graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1946. Ray was united in marriage to Charlotte Ann Wagoner on July 27, 1950. Together they welcomed three children into their family.

Ray was born on January 13, 1928 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Nettie (Ross) Huisman. He graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1946. Ray was united in marriage to Charlotte Ann Wagoner on July 27, 1950. Together they welcomed three children into their family.

Ray farmed for 45 years, beginning his career as a hired hand of multiple farms. He then went on to farm on his own until his retirement in 1989. He was a board member on the Farmers Co-Op in Grundy Center for 24 years. Ray was a long time member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting and trapping, but his true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his sons, Jerry (Darla) Huisman of Grundy Center, IA and James (T.J.) Huisman of Hot Springs, AR; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Imogene Kolthoff of Wellsburg, IA and brother Donald (Grace) Huisman of Wellsburg, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years Charlotte; his daughter Linda Brauckman; brother Leland Huisman and his special friend Millie Wiltfang.
