Raymond Hoversten, 74, of Eldora, Iowa, died early Sunday Morning, February 10, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center. Raymond was under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice at the time of his passing. A graveside committal service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 14 at the Eldora City Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned by the family at a later date.
Raymond was born on August 15, 1939 in Eldora. He was the son of Gladys Hoversten and they made their home in Gifford, Iowa.
Raymond attended grade school in Gifford. He later moved briefly to Iowa Falls and during that time he was confirmed on January 22, 1956, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Raymond then moved to Eldora and graduated from high school with the class of 1958.
Raymond worked for some time on a turkey farm and then did farm work and various other jobs like mowing lawns. He didn't have a driver's license, but in his lifetime wore out numerous bicycles. Many of his journeys took him miles out of town picking up cans in the ditches. Raymond was a frequent visitor to the coffee shops around town and had a legendary memory of the different branches of the Hoversten family tree.
Raymond's mother, Gladys, preceded him in death in 1986. He is survived by numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
