Randy J. Choate, 62, of Colo, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Honey Creek–New Providence Friends Church in New Providence, with Arlen Daleske officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Chester Cemetery in Union. Arrangements were made with the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Randy Joe Choate, son of Fon and Dorothy (Harrington) Choate was born on September 23, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa. He was raised in Dana, Iowa where he received his education from the Dana Community School. Following his education, he worked for several years as a mechanic for Benton Beverage Trucks in Ames. In the summer of 1980, he opened S&R Repair in New Providence. On December 16, 1980 he married Sandy L. Shenton at Honey Creek-New Providence Friends Church. The couple resided in New Providence. Due to his failing health, he closed S&R Repair. The couple moved to Colo in July of 2014. Randy enjoyed working on any kind of car. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Randy is survived by his wife, Sandy of Colo; five sons, John (Amber) Choate of Manly, Craig (Chrystal) Choate of Marshalltown, Jason and James Choate of Ames, Dameon Choate of Colo; daughter, Dalilah Choate of Colo; grandchildren, Brittany, Alicia, Devan, Tatum, Micaela, Parker, Ty, and Randy; three great grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Choate of Nevada, Sondra (Vern) Williams of Boone; brothers, Tom (Vicki) Choate of Grand Junction, David (Marla) Choate of Webster City, James (Joyce) Choate of Ogden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, one brother and one sister.
